Abstract

This study assessed community health workers' knowledge about HPV in primary health care in the southern region of São Paulo, identifying specific gaps and their association with sociodemographic and training characteristics. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 183 community health workers using an electronic questionnaire including sociodemographic and work variables and an HPV knowledge instrument. Descriptive statistics and Student's t-test were used, considering a 5% significance level. Participants showed a higher percentage of correct answers on general aspects of HPV, while gaps persisted in specific content, including condom effectiveness, natural history of infection, and vaccination schedule. These findings reinforce the need for continuing education for community health workers, with emphasis on technical-scientific content related to HPV prevention, vaccination, and transmission.
