Abstract

The aim was to identify research in national and international literature regarding the challenges to improving the quality of life of children with stomas. This study consisted of an integrative literature review conducted between May and July 2024 using the MEDLINE/PubMed and Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health databases, as well as the Virtual Health Library portal—specifically the Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS), Spanish Bibliographic Index of Health Sciences (IBECS), and Nursing Database (BDENF) databases. The search yielded 150 publications. The following inclusion criteria were applied: scientific publications in Portuguese, Spanish, and English, published between 2019 and 2024. Ten publications were selected. The studies revealed that caring for children with a stoma often has a negative impact on both the child and their family members.
